Holiday at Ostsee Feriendorf

We recently took our car and headed out of the city heading to the Baltic Coast. Craving some time away from the city, we searched for somewhere family-friendly to stay and found the Ostsee Feriendorf, a small collection of holiday homes with their own access to a beach and water along the coast. We had quite differing weather during our visit so pardon the swap around in clothing in the images quite somewhat but here's more info about our family trip to the Baltic Coast.
The holiday village features a range of houses that take different size groups. We decided to take one of the smaller houses, the Kleiner-Belt-Haus and were lucky enough to get a house that was located very close to the beach. Even the houses further back from the beach are only about 10 minutes walk from the beach.

The house isn't quite as large as it looked on their website I must admit but, it's absolutely lovely. As the weather was quite cold when we arrived, they had put on the heating in preparation for our arrival which was a lovely touch and we were amazed at the amount of cooking equipment the kitchen included. Much more than you usually find in a rental. There's enough storage to put your things in and a handy washing machine in the bathroom should you need it. For those who love a bit of pampering, there is even a small sauna in the bathroom and some of the houses feature a bathtub although our type of house had a shower instead.

The bedrooms are small but more than enough and the kids loved their little bedroom. The outdoor spaces come with a terrace and gorgeous retro beach lounger on the terrace with a small amount of garden around the house which the kids ran around, as they do.

Parking was available for our car on the road in front of our house making it easy to unpack and pack our bags.

The beach front was just a couple of minutes walk from our house which made for a nice easy stroll to the sand. The sand was littered with seaweed and a variety of seashells and starfish, so don't expect there to be long stretches of clean, sparkling sand but our boys loved throwing the stones in to the water, discovering starfish, clambering over the nearby rocks and searching for fish in the water.

There is a small town a short drive from the village which includes a supermarket (that was also open on Sundays) so it's possible to get food and basics locally should you need it. Wifi is available in the houses but you need to get the code from the reception when checking in (the reception closes early so make sure to pick it up before then.)

If you want to travel outside of the village, there are a number of day trips that are possible nearby. The holiday village website features some 'Urlaubsideen' (holiday ideas) in German such as Hansa Park for those with older children (a large theme park), Surfschuler Pelzerhaken for those who want to have a go at surfing as well as bike tours and much more.

Due to our short stay in the area, we didn't go on many trips but we did go to visit the beautiful Travemünde which we would love to see more of and we spent an afternoon in Hohwacht, both a shortish drive.
The Ostseeferiendorf booking page features different types of seasons and during 'Zwischensaison', when we visited, the minimum amount of days you have to stay were 2, so we were able to enjoy a weekend at the holiday village. During Hauptsaison however, the minimum stay is 7 days. For those of you looking for a longer trip, there is plenty to enjoy and explore within 1.5 hours drive from the village and plenty closer so I think a 7 day stay would be great.

There were staff at the reception who were able to communicate in English and when you book your stay, you can ask for various family-friendly additions (at no extra cost) such as a baby bath, children's toy box, high chair etc. There was a little step that can be used by kids in the bathroom and I thought the extra little touches was really nice. On top of that, we accidentally left our phone charger in the house after we left and, without us even asking, they returned the phone charger to us in the post with a lovely little note. We loved our stay at the Ostseeferiendorf and look forward to going back later in the year.
