Yamo: FREE Babyfood in Berlin

Nutritious, vitamin-rich and tasty quick-fix baby food options in Berlin supermarkets aren’t exactly overwhelming. Even those allegedly healthy squeezy fruit pouches have been stood on the shelves for god knows how long, stuffed with more preservatives than fruit.

This is why I was interested when Yamo got in touch with me about their product. You know I don’t usually do promotion on the site, but I thought this was a great opportunity for Berlin parents, (with free stuff and discount codes), so why not?

My boys are 4 and 6 years old, so way past the baby-food stage, but when Yamo sent me a box of their fresh, chilled products, it included about a dozen squeezy pouches with tongue-in-cheek names like ‘Inbanana Jones’ and ‘Quentin Carrotino’ which the boys immediately got stuck into. My eldest wanted the spinach, apple, cucumber and banana one, because he wants to be strong like Popeye (thank you E.C.Segar, millions of mums salute you). And the little one chuffed down a ‘David Cocofield’ with apple, pear, coconut milk and millet, and both boys clamoured for more.

Bingo! Kita pick-up snacks sorted. Although Yamo is fresh food, products have a 6 hour uncooled shelf life too. And, as an added bonus, the delivery box comes with two cooling bags to keep your products chilled, which are reusable, so stick them in your freezer and they're perfect for summer picnics or a trip to the lakes.

For mums going through that exciting, but often frustrating, weaning phase, the little cups of porridge taste great too. Appropriate for babies from 4 or 6 months plus, they have interesting flavour combinations like butternut squash and potato, mango, apple and banana, and lentils, pear and beetroot. And the porridge really is the colour of those ingredients, rather than that dismal orange uniform gloop inside all those little glass jars of baby-food  sold in every supermarket.

“How can it be that baby food that is older than the child who eats it is still sold in the supermarket these days?”

It was exactly that question that prompted the makers of Yamo to come up with their additive and preservative-free baby food range, with no added sugar, salt or colourings. All natural, all organic and honestly, tasty.
