Family suggestions during current kita/school closures...

We are living in worrying times, with unprecedented measures being taken worldwide to help combat the spread of Covid-19. Apart from the obvious issues surrounding the pandemic, there is also the smaller issue that families everywhere are beginning to face as schools and kitas close across Berlin - how the heck do we entertain our kids for the next XXX weeks??

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, we would like to encourage everyone to NOT seek indoor activities and performances during the next few weeks, but to stay at home, or, if possible, get out to one of Berlin's many wide open spaces (while not using public transport), where you can keep your social distance, flatten that curve, but still make the most of the warmer weather, and keep those littluns happy.

Yesterday we took the lads out on their bikes to Gleisdreieck Park, but decided to explore further, so kept on cycling south, straight over Yorckstrasse bridge and onwards, keeping the railway tracks to our left. We cycled straight along a wide, flat bike/walking path, which I hadn't known about before. We hit Sudkreuz station, but carried on through to the other side where the path continued, with the Kolonie Sonnenbad on our right. This is basically a glorified allotment, with dozens of little summer houses and their gardens, for those lucky enough to own one. After a little while, we set down our blanket and had our first picnic of the season. Ok, so we were still in our coats, but the sun was shining and it was lovely to just sit and watch the world go by.. from a safe distance.

After a little footy, we cycled on and soon reached the Natur-Park Schöneberger Südgelände behind the S-bahn Priesterweg station. We spent a happy couple of hours wandering around in this wonderful, old, overgrown train depot before cycling back (You can see an earlier post with more info on this wonderful park here) along our newly found bike track.

While the weather is good, it's a great opportunity to get out and explore parts of Berlin you may not have yet been to, but of course, not everyone's schedule  allows for this, so here's some more ideas for indoor activities.
