Surreal Museum for Industrial Objects

As the title of this place alludes to, this museum is something rather extraordinary and...well...surreal. We headed there last Winter to check out it's rooms of objects, collected by passionate photographer & lover of all things unusual, Vlad Korneev and I'm finally getting round to blogging about our experience there.
Whether you generally enjoy museums or not, this place is simply not comparable to others. Equally creepy and fascinating, the mixture of objects on display range from the everyday to items you will likely have never seen before.

From the outside, the museum looks relatively small but it is in fact surprisingly large and full to the brim. All these items are brought together by their quirky and incredibly entertaining owner, Vlad. He speaks English, German and Russian & be prepared, you will be talked to by him and quite possibly a lot. If you are shy, perhaps this isn't the place for you. Vlad has a depth of knowledge and passion for each and every item in the this Mitte museum and he'll happily challenge you to guess what some of the items are and explain them to you if wish. Make your way through the rooms and he'll appear sporadically to fill you in on some wonderful tale about an objects history.

As Vlad likes to explain, each object in the museum is displayed in a way to make you question it's origin and usage and how it could otherwise be used. This sometimes results in rather odd and a little bit creepy creations, however, in the end you realise they are just the result of a creative and slightly mad (in the best kind of way) mind gone wild.

Whilst the place is relaxed and some of the objects are interactive, this isn't really a suitable museum to bring young children with wandering hands to, I think the temptation to touch everything would just be too great. We went with our baby in a buggy/stroller (who slept the whole time) and we able to make our way through the museum ok, although it is a little tight in places. It would be great to visit with children who are a bit older & teenagers who would be entertained by the madness of it all.

We absolutely loved this place and will definitely head back once the kids are old enough to be fascinated by it. If you want a guided tour of the place (or you can go round by yourself) they start every hour, on the hour.
