Family-friendly outdoor swimming pools in Berlin

During the summer months, Berlin closes it's indoor swimming pools (yes, even when it's a bad summer unfortunately) and it's many open-air/outdoor swimming pools open up to the masses. They do tend to get rather busy so expect crowds if you go on a warm weekend, but they can be lots of fun. I've written a list of family-friendly outdoor swimming pools in Berlin along with their Summer opening schedule and some extra info about who they are best for ie. younger children or older kids.
Picture
Kinderbad Monbijou (Mitte)
Oranienburger Straße 78
10178 Berlin
Website and opening times
Tip: This pool is right in the centre of town, so can get very busy. There are two swimming pools, one with deep water and another, shallow one, specifically for young children/babies. There is also a green area to lounge and play on with a sandpit at the far end. A kiosk sells basic food and drinks.

Sommerbad Olympiastadion (Westend)
Olympischer Platz 1
14053 Berlin
Website and opening times
Tip: Take a look at a bit of history when visiting this special outdoor swimming pool at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Purposely built for the Berlin 1936 Olympics, the pool is surrounded by stadium seating and looks rather grand, in a brutalist kinda way. It still makes for something rather special and along with the 50m pool with spring boards, there are two children's pools with slides. You can read a little more about the history of the Berlin Olympic swimming pool here.

Sommerbad Wuhlheide (Oberschöneweide)
Treskowallee 211
12459 Berlin
Website and opening times
Tip: The Sommerbad Wuhlheide offers lots for little ones including waterslides for babies and toddlers as well as a dry playground and climbing area.

Sommerbad Kreuzberg (Kreuzberg)
Prinzenstraße 113-119
10969 Berlin
Website and opening times
Tip: Also known as 'Prinzenbad',  this open-air swimming pool in the middle of Kreuzberg offers a 'non swimmer' pool with wide, shallow slide, close to a children's playground. There is also a huge pool for older kids with a bigger slide, a sports pool with lanes and a non-heated pool. There is also a cafe with a terrace. It all gets crazily busy in Summer, so try to get there early.

Kinderbad Platsch (Marzahn)
Max-Herrmann-Straße 7
12687 Berlin
Website and opening times

Sommerbad am Insulaner (Steglitz)
Munsterdamm 80
12169 Berlin
Website and opening times
Tip: This outdoor swimming pool offers something for all children. For the little ones there is both a small and a slightly larger 'non-swimmer' section, one with a little slide in to the water and for the older children, there is a 50m swimming pool with 3 springboards to practise their dives in to the water and a large bendy waterslide. Outside of the pool, there is also a sandpit and small climbing area.

Sommerbad Pankow (Pankow)
Wolfshagener Straße 91
13187 Berlin
Website and opening times
Tip: A good one especially for the older children, Sommerbad Pankow offers lots of watery fun including water slides, spring boards, water canons, a so-called 'high-speed water slide' and a lazy river to gently float you around the water.

Sommerbad Mariendorf (Mariendorf)
Rixdorfer Straße 130
12109 Berlin
Website and opening times
Tip: Another outdoor swimming pool in Berlin that fits well for all the family. Inside the pool, there is a special area for 'non swimmers' with a small slide and 'water mushrooms', in the 50m pool there is a water slide and diving boards and outside of the pool, there is a children's playground, table tennis, volleyball nets and football (soccer) goals.

Sommerbad Neukölln (Columbiabad)
Columbiadamm 160, 10965 Berlin
Website
Tip: This is my absolute favourite sommerbad, mainly because the water in the kids' pool is slightly heated, so on those not-so-hot days, it's still possible to go and have a splash around. There is also another huge pool, with a long winding slide and loads of grassy areas to relax, play and sunbathe. A small playground is tucked into a far corner, but it's not much to write home about. The cafe is a little limited but for chips and obscene amounts of tomato sauce and mayonnaise, you're good.

I tried Stadtbad Lankwitz (freizeitorientiertes Bad)

This is a really good pool for getting the young ones to learn swimming.

- There is a baby pool with a small slide, fountain and bubbles.
- A Child pool with a decent deep end (can't stand it when the deep ends are to the knees)
- Really good adult pool
- 2x Jacuzzi
- A water slide thats reasonably fun.

There is also a sauna no idea what that is like. In the winter there is also an out door icescaking place.
