For those of you who keep up to date with local Berlin news or follow my BFATF Facebook page, you may well have heard of the 'Drachenretter' (Dragon Saving) campaign. Following many years of being played on, the original 'Dragon Playground' had been closed, deemed unsafe. A group of parents who wanted to see it reopened weren't discouraged by the estimated €150,000 needed to rebuild the playground and set up an 'Bürgerinitiative' to do just that. Events, a FB page and a Berlin-wide campaign followed and they were successful in saving the dragon!
In 2014, the Dragon Playground re-opened and it is quite breathtaking. Set between an array of buildings, the large dragon watches over Schreinestraße, offering many climbing and sliding opportunities for big and small. It really is a fabulous playground to behold and those who helped save it should be incredibly proud.
Across the road from the playground you can find Kinderwirtschaft, a family cafe offering food and drinks, a WC and an indoor play space in the back, for those looking for some refreshment or to get out of the cold in the winter months.
